Arcstream for Shanghai and Formula 1
As Shanghai geared up to host the inaugural Chinese Grand Prix on 26th September, central to the celebrations was a massive-scale laser and special effects spectacular on the Huangpu river, created and produced by a British company, Arcstream AV.
To promote Formula 1 and Shanghai City, the city government commissioned London-based Arcstream AV, leaders in the field of creative audio visual technology, to design and produce a breathtaking multi-media display to light up the night sky, quite literally for miles, from a 40 metre floating barge which travels to various locations on the Huangpu river, adjacent to the famous Bund.
The show utilises a giant waterscreen, a staggering 50 metres wide by 25 metres high, onto which video output is projected, and includes moving lights, full colour laser projection, smoke effects and a 10,000 watt audio system. The show lasts for 15 minutes, and features traditional and contemporary Chinese themes. Up to the end of the Chinese Grand Prix the last four minutes were devoted to thrilling F1 imagery. The nightly display will continue as a national and tourist attraction for one year.
In a second part of the project for government department - the Shanghai City Appearance & Environmental Administrative Bureau - Arcstream AV is installing another outdoor multi-media display within an existing piano-shaped, dancing water musical fountain system in Shanghai Town Square, which is planned to run indefinitely to promote an exciting and positive image of this vibrant city.
Arcstream AV is an innovator in the use of large format image display technology and utilises the most advanced audio visual and special effects equipment with awesome results. The company is renowned in the industry for its submerged waterscreen systems – walls of water mist up to 25 metres high, onto which high-powered video, digital or slide images can be projected so that giant moving objects and figures materialise seemingly out of thin air. The effect is astonishing and, when combined with beams of vibrant colour, blankets of intense light, fantastical graphics sequences, multi-coloured laser tunnels and dramatic smoke and audio effects, creates a truly awe-inspiring display.
