Cadac S-Types Perform in the Far East

Cadac reports on two high profile deployments for its S-Type Compact Live Production Console in the Far East, involving Japan's prestigious Shiki Theatre Company and one of Indonesia's leading rental companies, Sumber Ria. Shiki Theatre Company has recently added two S-Types to its extensive complement of Cadac consoles, ready for the opening of two new productions in January - Phantom of the Opera on 12th January, at the Dentsu Shiki Theatre SEA in Shiodome,Tokyo, as well as Evita on 27th January at the Shiki Theatre AKI, also in Tokyo. In Indonesia, Sumber Ria recently chose an S-Type to tour artist Krisdayanti (KD) in late 2004, as a high quality analogue alternative to their usual analogue and digital console hire stock.

Shiki Theatre Company currently stages an average of seven performances every day of the year, with seven theatres of its own and eleven productions running simultaneously throughout Japan at any one time, all of which are performed in Japanese. In January, it added two new productions – Phantom of the Opera and Evita - choosing the S-Type for the orchestra mixes to complement the main Cadac J-Type consoles.

Mr. Kanamori of Shiki explains: "We wanted the very best in terms of both audio quality and facilities, and the S-Type undoubtedly represents the best console in its price range. Its compact size was an important consideration, as is the flexibility of being able to move the modules, so that we can configure the desk exactly to the needs of each show. Our engineers are impressed with the design, particularly for use as a second console or as an orchestra mixing desk. For Phantom of the Opera, we are using the S-Type as both an orchestra mixer and as an extension for the J-Type, linked by sub-in rather than D-sub buss connectors found on all Cadac consoles. Essentially, it is configured as a sub-in on the orchestra reverb return to an input channel on the J-Type, or directly into the sub bass speaker output to handle the lower sections of the orchestra. We have noticed a real difference since we started using the S-Type, with the orchestra sounding better overall."

Shiki's chief engineer on Phantom of the Opera is Yoshiteru Morita, with the full sound system comprising a 56-input Cadac J-Type, the 33-way S-Type and a principally Meyer Sound speaker line-up, comprising CQ1s, with MTD108 front subs, MID front fills and UPAs. One of the S-Types was also deployed on Shiki's in-house production - Minami Jyujisei - staged at the Shiki Theatre AKI.
