Showlight 2005 - Tricks of the Trade
Big ideas, small budgets . . . isn’t that always the way? But help is close at hand. Speaking about Lighting on a Shoe String at Showlight 2005 is Carol Sadler, a lighting director and camera supervisor with BBC Outside Broadcasts. Although she says “good, cheap and quick” are three words that don’t work together, she’ll be letting the Showlight audience in on a few tricks of the trade and the techniques that help make a programme look a million dollars. In a wide-ranging career, Carol has worked on a variety of programmes, from drama to sport, from the Glastonbury Festival to Trooping the Colour, so expect a full and interesting 20 minutes!
Complementing Carol’s paper is Mike Le Fevre’s Fightbox - Computers, Avatars, Delusions and Videotape. Mike will take delegates on a 20-minute whistle stop tour of the current lighting techniques, developments and pitfalls in blending imagery from the real and virtual worlds. This will lead on to a discussion of the creative and technical approach adopted in the production of Fightbox, the virtual reality game show series commissioned by BBC Television in 2003.
These two papers are just part of a much wider programme of seminars, product displays, events and backstage tours which are an integral part of Showlight 2005. Taking place from 22-24 May 2005 at the Prinzregententheater, Munich, Showlight is a truly international event, attracting speakers and delegates from around the world.
