India’s Top Film Company Invests in Prism Sound

Yash Raj Films, one of India’s biggest film production companies, is so determined to maintain the quality of its productions that it is currently building a state of the art in-house post production facility, which is due to open this autumn.

Among the equipment ordered for the new facility are two Prism Sound ADA-8 XR multichannel converter and processor units, which will be used in Yash Raj’s new Film Music Scoring studio.

Yash Raj Films, based in the Mumbai suburb of Andheri, has been producing and distributing films for 20 years. Its last four releases (Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara, Dhoom and Bunty aur Babli) were all huge Indian box office hits and the company is currently working on a new movie, Saalam Namaste, which will be released later this year.

As part of an overall expansion plan, the company is building a new studio facility, which will include a Film Music Scoring Room, a Dolby/DTS Film Mix Theatre, an ADR Room, a Foley Room, a Music Project Studio and a Tracking Room. Daman Sood, director of Indian equipment distribution specialist Sound Team, has been appointed technical consultant for this project, while Martin Pilchner, of Canadian company Pilchner Schoustal, is handling the acoustic design of the entire facility.

A determination to equip the new facility to the highest possible standards lies behind Yash Raj’s decision to invest in Prism Sound ADA-8XR compressors.

“Prism Sound products are renowned for their proven sound quality, reliability, performance, flexibility and after-sales support,” says Daman Sood. “As Yash Raj will be using Pro Tools as its primary recording medium, the new ADA-8XR units were an obvious choice because they offer the best possible A/D and D/A conversion available. The fact that the recently released ADA-8XR units operate at sampling rates of up to 192kHz will provide Yash Raj engineers with the option of significantly improving audio performance by recording at even higher resolutions.”

Yash Raj has also invested in a range of other equipment for the new facility, including a Neve 88R analogue console, Genelec 5.1 monitoring, Dynaudio 5.1 Near Field monitoring, Neumann, DPA & Brauner microphones and a range of outboard equipment from manufacturers such as Manley Labs, Lexicon, Eventide, GML and Avalon.
