Malaysia Set To Stage Biggest Visual Effects, Animatronics & Animation Event in Asia

Malaysia confirmed its place on the visual effects frontier when it was announced that Asia’s largest visual effects and animation event will be staged there early next year.

The event, VFX ASIA2006 was conceived to bring the visual effects, animatronics and animation experts from all over the world to showcase their services and products to visitors from the Asia-Pacific region. The event will provide the strategic opportunity for participants to forge new partnerships, offshoring and international market expansion.

Filem Senter Sdn Bhd, the organizer of the event, will be inviting industry leaders from the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and Japan to take part in a major way. VFX ASIA2006 Chairman Senator Datuk Jins Shamsudin said: “The potential for visual effects is tremendous. Already, they are being used in Hong Kong and Korean movies.”

Malaysian Minister of Information, Dato’ Sri Abdul Kadir Bin Haji Sheikh Fadzir, in a letter to the organizer, praised Datuk Jins and his team “on your tireless effort to make this event a success and make Malaysia’s presence felt in this important industry.”

The Minister added: “The Ministry of Information Malaysia is in full support of this event and is confident that VFX Asia 2006 will be a success. We also believe the exhibition will give an opportunity for local industry players a chance to expose and share knowledge with other experts participating in the Conference.

“The industry in Asia has been waiting for an event like this to happen. This event will be able to cater to the needs of a majority of the people involved in the media and entertainment industries in the Asia-Pacific region and for many who may never have a chance to travel to the US or Europe to attend similar events, due to cost and time constrains,” said Datuk Jins.

According to market analysts, by 2008 the global computer graphics and animation industry will be worth more than US$70 billion. Targeted to grow between 1.9% to 4.5% each year, the industry is expected to see a gradual shift from the established markets of North America, Canada and Europe to Asia spurred by low infrastructure cost and high-return investments.

The event, to be held from 22nd to 25th March, 2006 at the newly-open Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, is expected to attract more than 200 international exhibitors and 14,000 trade visitors from Asia.

VFX ASIA2006 is fully supported by the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Information, Malaysia and the Ministry of Culture, Arts & Heritage, Malaysia.
