Newcastle Stadium Installs Lighthouse Screen

Newcastle Stadium, the home of legendary Aussie rugby league team, the Newcastle Knights, has upgraded viewing capabilities for its fans through the installation of a giant, state-of-the-art, outdoor video screen, manufactured and designed by Lighthouse Technologies.

The screen, a Lighthouse Technologies P12-ER high resolution LED display, will relay to rugby fans spectacular, live images of their favorite Newcastle Knights players in action. Spectators will also be able to view true-to-life images of instant replays, game statistics, player interviews and advertisements, all from different angles of the stadium’s pitch.

Australian systems integrator, Bytecraft Entertainment, was Lighthouse’s local partner responsible for the installation of the 5 x 4 panel (38.4sq m) video screen, which is positioned centrally in the Newcastle Stadium grounds in full view of the main spectator stands.

”When rugby enthusiasts visit Newcastle Stadium, one of the first things they will see after looking up from the playing field is the huge video screen,” said Geoff Ellery of Bytecraft Entertainment. “The screen has been designed to promote maximum brightness, clarity and viewing quality. We therefore hope that it will serve to positively contribute to the crowd’s experience and their overall enjoyment of the game.”

The P12-ER Lighthouse screen features a 12.5 mm dot pitch, 5000 Nits of brightness and encompasses Lighthouse’s proven M4 technology, including 14 bit processing, uniformity control and full diagnostic feedback. It will allow the stadium’s crowds to view the brightest colours possible, untarnished by the sunlight, the time of day, or their viewing position.

In addition, the screen’s unique video processing technology will also provide stadium broadcasters with the flexibility to show a wide variety of images originating from either a video or PC source. This includes the ability to broadcast content developed in both analogue and digital formats.

Commenting on the installation, Ellery said: “Bytecraft Entertainment is very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Lighthouse Technologies on the Newcastle Stadium project and we hope that this will be the first of many such co-operations.

“Lighthouse’s R12-ER is an ideal product for applications that require excellent color definition, superior brightness, and high image quality and we envisage that there will be many opportunities to extend its use throughout Australia.”

Mark Chan, managing director of Lighthouse Technologies agrees: “The demand in the market for this type of technology is very bullish at the moment, particularly amongst stadiums and other large sporting arenas.

“We therefore look forward to expanding our partnership with Bytecraft Entertainment to take advantage of this growth and to introduce a wider group of new communities to the benefits that cutting-edge video technology has to offer.”
