EFM ignite the Asian Games

UK event logistics specialists EFM were entrusted by the Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) to manage the logistical operation behind the 2006 Asian Games Torch Relay.

Two experienced members of EFM’s staff accompanied the flame and H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani, an heir to the Qatari Throne, over 55,000km, taking in 29 cities in 15 countries by air, road and sea in 65 days; finally arriving in the impressive Khalifa Stadium in Doha for the Opening Ceremony of the 15th Asian Games on Friday 1stDecember.

EFM managed all of the logistics, customs and travel needs of the organising team for every leg of the tour, ensuring the flame stayed alight throughout the whole journey, distributing 6,000 uniforms to torchbearers and volunteers; hanging 5,000 Torch Relay banners in the streets of each city and handling 100 pieces of royal luggage with kid gloves from one presidential suite to the next.

In picture: The crowning moment for Andy Cruickshanks – one of EFM’s on board managers, had to be on the last day of the torch relay in Bahrain, where he was invited to run a sector in the torch relay himself, dressed in the maroon and white torchbearer uniform.
