LSC maXim was Show’s Lifesaver
With minimal plotting and rehearsal time, lighting designer Jonjon Villareal relied on the LSC maXim control console to save the day for Ballet Philippines.
Forerunner Technologies, the LSC Lighting distributor in the Philippines, recently supplied the Cultural Center of the Philippines with a LSC maXim XLP control console for a performance by the Ballet Philippines. The production bought to life Cayabyab's bestseller ‘Great Filipino Love Songs’ at the CCP Main Theatre in a show entitled ‘Da Capo #1: Playing Maestro Ryan Atbp’.
“The lighting crew at the CCP found the LSC maXim to be intuitive and fast to learn,” said Mario A.S. Benipayo, president and CEO of Forerunner Technologies. “Most did not even have to read the manual thoroughly. Most notable was the ability of the maXim to feel right at home in a theatre application. The STACK feature made playback of the whole show as simple as hitting the “GO” button.
“I find the LSC maXim very useful for shows with minimal plotting time,” Jonjon added. “This show only had eight hours of rigging and focusing, and barely four hours of total plotting time before the final technical run. To cope with the schedule, I have to arrive at the theatre with my lighting layout, focus plot, paper plot and cues ready. I did my basic plotting of cues then tried it out with the first blocking adjustment rehearsal; adding, editing and creating lighting plot and cues instantly while the rehearsal is ongoing. This was all made possible due to instant access to all of my lighting circuits (channel sliders being assignable to many DMX channels) and easy scenemaster programming.
“After the blocking adjustment rehearsals, I did a STACK program of all my cues recorded in the previously programmed scenemaster. After minimal adjustment with the timing, the final technical run went smoothly with very minimal light adjustments thereafter. LSC maXim was the show’s lifesaver.”
Jonjon describes the LSC maXim as so easy to learn. “I just previewed the video tutorial and that was it. Straightaway I was using it like I already know the console by heart,” he said.
