Martin and Maxxyz PC Control Mogwai’s World Tour

Mogwai, the Scottish band formed in 1995, has become one of the most influential and best known "post-rock" bands. They have just completed a 10-date tour of the UK and are now heading out to Australia.

Nick Jevons, of Electric Fly, is the lighting designer for the tour and has been using a Martin Maxxyz PC with a wing to control the lighting for the whole tour. His son, Jake Jevons who now works for Bandit Lites, was working with him in the UK.

The lights used for the UK leg of the tour were MAC 300s, MAC 500s, and Atomic 3000 strobes, which were hung from four upstage ground-based 12” truss in a Y formation. The lighting was supplied by Bandit Lites.

It is the first time Nick has toured without using a lighting desk and as far as he’s aware it was the first time that this set-up has toured. He comments: “I found the system portable, creative and flexible without losing any of the capabilities of a lighting desk, and my job was made more convenient by the ability to pre-program most of the show on the Maxxyz console in the office, update the preset focuses at the venues, and operate the show via the playback wing.”

Nick is currently heading out to Australia and the Far East for the rest of the tour, and with the Maxxyz PC as hand luggage and he is thoroughly enjoying the convenience (and comfort!) of offline programming in his hotel room, much to the annoyance of the rest of the road crew, who are commenting that jammy Jevo has fallen on his feet again!
