Kuala Lumpur Gig Gets Loud with Sennheiser

International and regional celebrities took the stage each night with Sennheiser and Neumann microphones at the recent inaugural Live & Loud Kuala Lumpur 2007. Held from November 23rd to December 2nd, Live & Loud KL '07 is said to be the largest and longest festival in Southeast Asia, with an estimated attendance of 65,000. The ten-day music and concert extravaganza drew the likes of Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Shaggy, Rick Price, James Morrison, Zhang Zhen Yue and Zhang Hui Mei (A-Mei) through nightly performances showcasing different genres and themes. The event was supported by the Malaysia Tourism Board and is expected to be an annual affair.

Vince Tan, Sennheiser's relations manager for the Asia-Pacific region, noted, "We were excited and honored to be part of Live & Loud KL '07 – few events in Asia can boast of such top-notch international and regional artists as this."

"The high artist participation, the different music themes such as jazz, R&B and Best of 80s, coupled with a variety of venues, demanded equipment that was, not only versatile but, reliable," he added.

As the sole microphone sponsor, Sennheiser pledged quality equipment, including the SKM 5200 wireless handheld transmitter, Neumann KK 105 S capsule and the EM 3532 receiver. The equipment, which has been endorsed by renowned artists worldwide, was used at five venues including the Bukit Kiara with a capacity of up to 45,000. Its stage took ten days to set up. A technical crew of 200 was deployed during Live & Loud KL '07 – a further hint of the scale of the event.

The MD 5235 capsule for the SKM 5200 got a vote of confidence from Zulkifli Mohamed (photo), associate technical manager of Live & Loud Kuala Lumpur 2007. "It provides sufficient body on artist vocals, lending great presence to the overall sound of the events," he said, adding that the 900 series wired microphones for electric and acoustic instruments - the Sennheiser evolution e 901, e 902 and e 908 – also impressed him.

Kamal Masuni (photo), associate production manager of Live & Loud Kuala Lumpur 2007, concluded, "Sennheiser's involvement was a big boost to the KL series of gigs. Logistically the event was extremely challenging, but I knew right from the start we could depend on the Sennheiser transmitters and receivers to cater to different concert locations and artiste preferences."
