Showtech 2009 Berlin

From 16 to 18 June the curtain will go up in Berlin for Showtech 2009. Altogether, 350 exhibitors are expected at the Berlin Exhibition Centre.

Technical managers and creative specialists from event locations, exhibition centres, convention venues, congress centres and arenas will find a wide range of products and services at the fair. With the EVENT3 platform, Showtech also offers a wealth of ideas and know-how for new concepts to event managers from agencies and companies. This year, one focus of the fair will be event safety.

Where stage technology is concerned, Showtech is the leader in over-stage and under-stage machinery, drive and control systems, chain hoists or complete stage installations - the global players such as Waagner Biro, Bosch Rexroth, SBS and Gerriets, to name but a few, can be found in Hall 2 of the Berlin Exhibition centre.

Hall 1, on the other hand, is all about professional lighting technology. This is where the leading suppliers such as ARRI, Martin Professional, ETC, Lightpower, LMP and German Light Products will be exhibiting.

Showtech is also unique in its combination of technical and décor fields. At the Costume and Equipment Marketplace in Hall 4, manufacturers from the areas of costume, equipment and make-up will be present.

Showtech will also be accompanied by the congress of the Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft (DTHG), the institutional patron of Showtech. This year's programme carries the motto ‘Event technology in the 21st century - a balancing act between tradition and innovation'. Topics in the lectures and discussions that accompany the fair will be concerned with innovations in the area of lighting and set design, the future of LED technology, and the changed conditions of production in theatre workshops as well as opportunities and limitations of audio technology. Some of the lectures will be held in or translated into English.

The issue of events safety in all its facets will be written large at the event. Live demonstrations on the new Safety Action Stage in Hall 3 round off the programme on all three days of the fair. During the entire day, specialists will demonstrate how errors in event safety can be avoided and what standards have to be complied with.

One of the topics dealt with on the action stage is the competent use of personal protection equipment (PPE) which can already help to avoid many accidents. A sample rescue from heights will be held to demonstrate how to rescue an injured person from the truss. In the area of fire protection, specialists will deal with possible solutions in timber constructions, plastic decorations and acrylic glass. After the demonstrations, the practitioners will be available for discussion.

Actors and speakers of the Action Stage also include specialists from the Deutsche Event Akademie, the television channels RTL, ZDF and Hessischer Rundfunk, Studio Hamburg and the NRW Materials Testing Agency (Materialprüfungsamt NRW). The programme is organised in close cooperation with the Verwaltungs-Berufsgenossenschaft (VBG) and the German statutory accident insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung - DGUV).
