SADiE at NAB Las Vegas

At the forthcoming NAB Convention in Las Vegas, SADiE will launch the PCM-H64, a new large scale multi-track DAW for post and music applications. Building on years of experience designing high quality audio workstations, the PCM-H64 is a powerful addition to the SADiE Series 5 range. In one step, SADiE have capitalized on the expertise gained through manipulating the huge data bandwidths required for DSD mastering to produce a truly powerful and flexible solution for multi-track audio post production.

At the heart of the system is the newly developed SADiE TNG3 processor card. Each card is capable of the editing, equalization, control of dynamics, and mixing into full surround of up to 64 channels of 48 kHz/24-bit audio, or up to 16 channels at 192 kHz/24-bit. As with the entire SADiE Series 5 range, all editing and processing is performed in real time, representing a massive leap forward in performance.

The SADiE PCM-H64 system is fully modular, both in terms of processing power and input/output capabilities. Superior inter-card bussing will enable complex mixer structures to span multiple processing cards. Input/output options are extensive and will include high quality analogue, digital, and MADI at standard or higher sample rates. Up to four cards can coexist in the same system, providing an awesome 12 Gflops of DSP power in a single computer dedicated to processing audio.

The hardware will be supported by the new SADiE V5.3 software, providing numerous audio post-rich features that will capitalize on the power of the PCM-H64. These include true multi-track editing, edit group selection, interface to the Yamaha mixer range, 9-pin slave functionality, improved AVI video support (including direct editing of the video stream, and specialized hardware solutions), and full compliancy with AAF V1.2, including the Edit Protocol, with greatly improved import capabilities from a variety of other applications.

Speaking of the new development, SADiE managing director Joe Bull commented: "Our customers have been telling us for some time that they needed a system that combined all of the advanced editing features and strengths that SADiE is renowned for, but with the capability of the higher track counts that modern post and music production requires. We believe that the PCM-H64 will easily address that need and provide our customers and the professional audio market at large with a serious alternative platform for high quality production, whether it be for post or music applications."

SADiE has also announced the addition AAF V1.2 Edit Protocol interchange support, a further development in its implementation of the Advanced Authoring Format file interchange standard for multimedia to include the new Edit Protocol standard (AAF V1.2). The Advanced Authoring Format (AAF) was designed as a cross-application vehicle for exchanging metadata and media-rich content and can be used to describe audio program compositions so they can be more seamlessly exchanged between audio editors who work with tools designed by different manufacturers.

Also to be released, the new V5.3 introduces many powerful new multi-track editing features. These expanded capabilities will not only further enhance usage of their H64, but will also be available for the existing Series 5 range of workstations.
