Book Now for Showlight 2005!

Showlight 2005, taking place in Munich in May, is now just weeks away and in addition to an eclectic mix of speakers - of which more later - there is going to be an interesting and stimulating array of social events and visits.

The Conference Dinner, which is included in the registration fee, is one of Showlight's signature events and a great opportunity for delegates and exhibitors to mix socially, carrying on the conversations started earlier in the day. This year delegates will enjoy a traditional Bavarian evening at the award-winning Ayinger Brewery, located just south of Munich in the heart of Bavaria. The 1200-year old village of Aying, famous for its traditional way of life and its snow-covered Alps, will provide the perfect setting for a convivial stein or two!

During the afternoon prior to the dinner, delegates will have the opportunity to go backstage at some of the leading venues and companies in the Munich area. The visits programme for 2005 includes a backstage tour of the stunning Nationaltheater, home to the world-renowned Bayerische Staatsoper, together with a visit to their out-of-town workshops, where visitors will see a variety of work, from carpentry to polystyrene sculpture to scenic painting. True lighting enthusiasts will be fascinated to visit the Kammerspiel Theatre, which is lit entirely with HMI, and the Residenz Theatre. Unfortunately, numbers to both of these are limited, so make sure you book early to stand a chance of getting the visits that you want. Factory visits include a trip to Dedo Weigert Lighting, a specialist company renowned for its innovative lighting systems which are in use throughout the film and TV industries.

The speaker line-up is one of Showlight's strongest ever: the international names include at least three award-winning lighting designers and speakers from Holland, Germany, Australia, North America, Austria and the UK.

Keynote speakers include American Ken Billington, who won the 1997 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for his lighting of Chicago; Durham Marenghi from the UK, who will review his wide range of commissions, from cruise liners to Golden Jubilees and Winter Olympics; and Director of Photography Roger Simonsz from Holland, who will look at colour, perception and reality in the context of film.

Richard Pilbrow, lighting designer and winner of numerous awards will be interviewed on a lifetime of lighting by his colleague David Taylor. Another award-winning speaker is Jerry Appelt of Germany, known for his work on event and concert lighting, who earlier this year received an Opus award for his lighting design for the Aida-Aula cruise ship launch.

Architectural lighting will be covered by Helmar Zangerl of the Lichtakademie Bartenbach in Austria, while lighting for television will be catered for by Mike LeFevre, who will look at the technology and practice of combining virtual graphics and live action, and Carol Sadler, who will review operating and lighting with minimal budgets!

Showlight is sponsored in part by Prinzregententheater School, part of the Bayerische Theaterakademie, ETC and ARRI, and couldn’t take place without the support of nearly 40 exhibitors, who will be showing and demonstrating their wares for the duration of the event.

Showlight takes place at the Prinzregententheater, Munich, from Sunday May 22 to Tuesday May 24, but those arriving in Munich on the Saturday are invited to register on Saturday evening and attend the Welcome Drinks reception. The main Conference commences on the Sunday morning.

   To register, telephone +44 (0)1323 418400 or e-mail info@showlight.org for further information.
