Soundweb Makes Lite Work of Three Weeds

The hotel was purchased by Todd Salter of Investment and Development Corporation in 2002. He closed the large rear entertainment section while contemplating the re-design and future image of this beautiful and historical location.
Besides the extensive building re-development, the AV component was also of paramount importance. Todd therefore turned to Sydney-based Avsound Productions to deliver a top quality result.
“Once we knew exactly what Todd required we recommended a high quality JBL speaker system incorporating Crown amplification and BSS Soundweb for all DSP,” said Justin Lakerink, Avsound’s project manager.
Rod McKinnon and Jeff Shoesmith from Jands worked closely with Justin to map functionality throughout the various audio zones of the venue. Due to the number of inputs and outputs required, Rod recommended that a pair of BSS Soundweb Lite 3088’s should be utilised. This eight-in, 16-out DSP engine is perfectly suited for this installation and, according to Justin, has met all the expectations of the client.
The BSS 3088 is RS232-controllable and integrates perfectly with the 9015 wall mounted remotes. Remotes were placed in three locations within the hotel so that input selection and volume controls were straightforward to operate.
The JBL speakers chosen for the background music aspect of the installation comprised 22 Control 25AV’s.
Since Todd is planning to reintroduce entertainment in the new main bar, JBL Control 30’s were chosen for sound reinforcement. This speaker delivers 500W and gets down to an impressive 38Hz. Bands and performers simply plug into the Soundcraft FX8 mixer and they are ready to rock!
Due to council environmental noise restrictions it was necessary to install the speaker system on acoustic suspension mountings, which meant that the building itself was free from audio dynamics created by the individual speakers themselves.
“This enabled us to programme the entire system accurately, so that all steps could be taken to protect the hotel from noise issues,” said Justin. “Coupled with system limiting and equalisation within the DSP we achieved an excellent result.”
