Product Launches from PLASA and IBC Trade Shows

Coemar De Sisti’s MD Peter Kemp travelled to Europe for the PLASA show in London and IBC in Amsterdam.

Belgium-based company Amelia nv introduced its new and innovative ShowLED animation system at PLASA 2006. For the fourth year in a row, ShowLED decorated the rear wall of Earls Court using a huge ShowLED curtain. The new Animation system was launched like it was performing in a real 'show'.

Designed in response to customer feedback, ShowLED Animation is designed to add some extra dynamism to the traditional Starcloth. As in other ShowLED systems, the LEDs are placed randomly, ideal for creating Starcloth effects. Features include high output RGB LEDs on thin socket cables, a velcro mounting system, excellent LED dimming curve, fast LED response time and additive colour mixing, says Amelia nv.

Contrary to most existing 'LED to fabric' video applications, ShowLED Animation retains the randomly-positioned LEDs, with a significantly raised density. The LEDs can be individually controlled as pixels to create low to medium resolution still images, video loops and flash animations. Moreover, the company claims to have achieved an ultra-fast data transfer that offers unique opportunities to display different layers and insert instant breaks. Amelia nv has also teamed up with Belgian colleagues of Arkaos, a special version of whose software is bundled to communicate with the ShowLED Animation controllers to offer user-friendly and customizable effects.

The Alkalite Octopod OP-75 is an LED spot with 75 high intensity LEDs, 45 degree beam angle, manual RGB adjustment, pre-programmed chase, master/slave operation and is DMX512 compatible.

Dance floor PZ-720 is a vibrant colour-changing panel ideal for flooring, walls and ceilings. A DMX-compatible panel equipped with red, green, and blue LEDs, the PZ-720 can create thousands of vibrant colours through RGB colour mixing and make super-smooth transitions from one shade to another. Easy to install on any surface, the PZ-720 panels are amazingly versatile. They can be used to light up a disco dance floor with flashy changing colours, or as a more subtle mood effect on the walls of a building’s interior or corridors. It’s so sturdy and durable you can dance on it, yet it’s completely portable, which also makes it great for mobile applications like stage shows, concerts, rentals and special events.

All of the light-generating mechanics are built right into the panel, so there’s no need for external controllers or devices other than a DMX controller. Because it is a self-contained unit, the PZ-720 is easy to set up and tear down, which makes it convenient for mobile users. Unlike many other LED systems, the PZ-720 can daisy chain in both data (DMX) and power using PowerCon in and out connectors. The efficient system requires only one 20-amp power source to daisy chain a 5m x 5m dance floor (25 panels).

The Octostrip TP-60 linear LED fixture in 1m and 2m lengths, each 1m length has 180 surface mounted high intensity RGB LEDs housed in an aluminium extrusion. Ideal as a wall-mounted feature or along trusses, etc.

ShowCAD showed the latest release of ShowCAD Artist which included: 32,000+ channels for stunning LED matrix displays; 500+ control templates for fixtures from over 50 manufacturers; unlimited simultaneous chases across DMX universes; effects generators for automated show creation - and much much more.

Coemar had preliminary information on a number of new products which they will release at the coming LDI show in USA. The Infinity Wash XL is a 200W extremely bright wash featuring: infinite colour generation CMYs (patent pending) allows generation of an extremely high intensity light beam, down to a complete colour saturation; zoom range (from 6-80 degrees); effects engine (patent pending) allows such things as texture, moon flower, picture (and more to come); 360 degree beam shaper; fast-fit lamp; new LCD display; XL (extra long distance).

The Pinlite RGB LED ia a continuation from the now popular Parlite LED fixture with: 12 1W Luxeon LEDs; available in both IP20 and IP65 versions; full range dimming; various beam angles possible.

Striplite RGB and RGBW LED is a linear high powered led system using 3W LEDs: versions available RGB and RGB + white (3200k); available in both IP20 and IP65 versions; full range dimming; various beam angles possible; IP66 with specific accessory; frontal filter frame.

The new range of economy Fresnels includes PC fixtures in 500/650W, 1000/1200W and 2000/2500W.

Compulite released a number of new products. The Dlite 48/96 The Dlite range was officially launched at PLASA last year and has already been popular in a wide range of applications including TV studios, theatres, art centres, schools and colleges. This year saw the launch of the largest system in the Dlite family with an integral 48/96 channel manual console. ePort and eSMS are Ethernet driven nodes that provide physical DMX connectors (1 in/4 out) and remote SMS (sound, MIDI and SMPTE) for any Vector console or the Vector PC to turn it into a fully functional Vector console for back-up or stand alone operation.

Last year we launched the Vector Playback Wing; this year saw the launch of two additional wings: the Vector Editor Wind and the Vector channel Wing. The Editor Wing is essentially the Vector main system editor housed in a portable unit that can be used as a remote designers control, an additional editor panel adjacent to the console or even as fully functioning Vctor console when connected to the Vector PC. The Channel Wing provides access to channels and cues; it incorporates a large dimmer wheel with associated level display. Any number of these can be connected to a Vector console or the Vector PC and used as channel controllers. The wings can be set to work as a completely separate user, without interfering with the main console operation.

PLASA also saw the preview of the Vector software version 3.13, which will be launched soon after the show. This includes a number of major features: full integration of the High End Catalyst media server allowing thumbnail of media on the Catalyst system to be automatically displayed on the VECTOR picker dialogue windows; multi-user features allowing two systems to share the same show; DMX input patch allowing any input channel to be patched to any output channel and triggering or macros from DMX; direct on screen editing of data such as cue names and times and time line events.

De Sisti exhibited at the International Broadcast Convention in Amsterdam and showed a wide range of their products. New products on show were a pantograph and also a TV hoist utilizing a metal ribbon suspension system rather then the common stainless steel cables.
