Robert Juliat for Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

On March 15th Melbourne celebrated the start of the XVIII Commonwealth Games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The stadium was crowded with 81.000 people, and worldwide more than 1.5 billion people turned on the TV and another 100.000 watched the show from the banks of the adjacent Yarra River and from other sites. The two-hour show featured a parade of 4,500 athletes from 71 countries in a stadium lit up with pyro and illumination effects.

Creative director Andrew Walsh developed an event that has been described as spectacular, glittering and surreal. Mike Hammer’s lighting design included 22 Robert Juliat Aramis and two Cyrano 2500W HMI DMX controlled followspots inside the Stadium.

With the opening ceremonies of the Athens Olympics, the rugby World Cup in Sydney, the Doha Soccer Gulf Cup and many other major shows around the world, Robert Juliat has proved that it is a leading choice for lighting designers for powerful and reliable followspots. Also Robert Juliat is the only manufacturer to offer the DMX dimmer/shutter control on a large number of its followspots, allowing synchronized artistic effects for all kind of indoor/outdoor venues.
