Going digital: Largest dimMA system installed in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre
Brisbane’s largest cultural centre, tThe Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC)also known as QPAC, has recently installed a dimMA systemwith 504 circuits and10 Network Dimmer Processors (NDP) in its into their Concert Hall. This is one of the largest theatrical dimMA installations worldwide. Show Technology Australia, which was realisingwho realised the project, opened an office in Brisbane to assure local support.
The Ooverall,The installation consists of seven MA Digital Dimmer Racks, each with 72 circuits, were distributed throughout placed oin different storeyies the Concert Hall. This rack distribution went away from the traditional central dimmer room design. A large saving was made with the cabling infrastructure, as the racks are now closer to the outlets. There are four racks with four Network dimmer Processors (NDPs) in the ceiling, two behind the side lighting positions each with a back up NDP and one in the basement with a back up NDP. One in the basement with two NDPs, one as back-up, two on level 3 with four NDPs, two as back-up, and four inon the atticceiling. The last four NDPs were installed there too. This meants that oneSo one main Each rack has a redundant and one backup NDPprocessor capable controlof controlling 144 dimmer circuits.
Doug Brimblecombe, Director Manager of the QPAC’s lighting manager, Doug Brimblecombe lighting department, praised the support of Show Technology: “The installation, commissioning, testing and training all went smoothly ensuring our first client in 2007 had a seamless show. The in house team of technicians are very happy with this install which is the backbone of their craft and are looking forward to experimenting with this flexible technology.”It is the best offered in all of AustraliaTheir support with the whole project was excellent from the start, they were very much ‘on board’. QPAC in Brisbane has four theatres in one complex. The Concert Hall is home to The Queensland Orchestra and hosts a large variety of productions such as acoustic and amplified concerts, comedy, graduations and award presentation events. The MA dimmer installation will make the process of staging all the different genres a simpler and easier process.
The Queensland Performing Arts Centre is a very large complex consisting of four theatres, or auditoriaum, or venues for live performances. Its Concert Hall is primarily designed for orchestral performances, although it also hosts a variety of other events and performances from jazz to stand-up comedy, graduation ceremonies and award presentations. The 6500 pipe Klais Grand Organ is the central architectural focus of the hall. The Concert Hall seats up to 1800 and is the home home venue for The Queensland Qrchestra.
