J. R. Clancy Announce SceneControl Hand Held Remote
J. R. Clancy, Inc., has announced the availability of a hand held device that extends the capabilities of the SceneControl automated motion control system to any point in the theatre.
SceneControl Hand Held Remote has a six-inch graphic touch screen in two-dimensional colour, and 14 function keys that allow the operator to select sets or multiple sets and move them between show-specific soft limits. From the touch screen, the operator can see and execute the presets and cues that were written on the theatre’s SceneControl 500 console. This allows the operator to run cues from the position that provides the clearest sight lines.
The new hand held remote extends J. R. Clancy’s automated motion control offerings in its SceneControl brand. SceneControl 500, the system in place in theatres, performing arts centers and concert halls throughout North America and around the world, provides top-of-the-line motion control. SceneControl 500’s accurate, 3D display of the theatre lets technicians easily select the sets they want to control on the touch screen. The user-friendly interface lets users develop simple or elaborate cues and modify them to match the flow of each performance.
Any preset or cue written on the SceneControl 500 can be executed using SceneControl Hand Held Remote, whether the operator is positioned in the wings, orchestra, basement, or house. Using SceneControl Hand Held Remote, operators can move scenery, lighting, acoustical banners, reverberation doors, travelers, speaker clusters, winches, revolves, orchestra lifts and more.
The hand held device is hard-wired with a 34-foot (10 metre) cord that can be plugged into receptacles installed in up to 12 locations throughout the theatre. Each receptacle is hard-wired to a direct connection with the SceneControl 500 console. Users can purchase a cord as long as 100 meters for SceneControl Hand Held Remote.
“Safety is the highest priority for every product made by J. R. Clancy,” said Larry Eschelbacher, manager of controls engineering for J. R. Clancy. “In developing SceneControl Hand Held Remote, we have provided a device that allows stagehands to execute a cue in full view of the moving winches or lifts, no matter where they need to be in the theatre to see the move. In the event that the operator sees something going wrong, SceneControl Hand Held Remote has a hard-wired emergency stop button, so the operator can stop the cue instantly.
“When scenery or heavy equipment is in motion over people’s heads, every precaution must be taken to be sure that the people below are safe,” Eschelbacher continued. “We chose hard-wired operation of SceneControl Hand Held Remote because wireless operation can be intermittent—sometimes dropping out entirely—and consumer hand held devices can interfere with the signal. The hard-wired SceneControl Hand Held Remote offers the most reliable, constant connection to the main console, assuring that there will be no interruption in mission-critical operations.”
