Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300 wins PLASA Award for Innovation

There has been an atmosphere of considerable satisfaction at Clay Paky's HQ in Italy for many months now - having succeeded in designing a product that is unique, unrivalled and without direct competitors, and capable of filling a gap in the live entertainment lighting equipment sector. And lighting designers immediately noticed the difference and identified Clay Paky's latest product as a creative and innovative tool for their work, specifying it for many important international projects.
Rental Companies also noticed the difference and immediately welcomed the innovative nature of the solution and appreciated the extraordinary performance features of the Alpha Beam 300, purchasing many units and enabling Clay Paky to dedicate complete production lines exclusively to the product, in order to cope with orders from all over the world.
The only factor missing was an ‘official' acknowledgement from the industry, and this was not long in arriving. Alpha Beam 300 won a silver Award for Innovation at PLASA08 in London on 8th September. The award was presented to Clay Paky's Enrico Caironi, and the judges "were impressed by this amalgamation of existing technologies which has created a new tool for lighting designers, offering greater versatility and flexibility".
Pasquale Quadri, president of Clay Paky, said: "We are very proud of this award. It confirms that Alpha Beam 300 was exactly the solution that was missing in the world of live entertainment, and it is a fitting acknowledgement to the team that worked with professionalism and passion, in both the design and production phases. Our on-going contact with lighting designers and qualified operators in the sector was also a key factor."
Innovative and complete, compact, service friendly and easy to install and use, Alpha Beam 300 is the ideal moving light beam for "live" professional use - especially "long throw" - to cut through the brightness of stage washes or LED backgrounds, with Aircraft Landing light effects never seen before.
Alpha Beam 300 is very powerful and eco-friendly: thanks to the new special Clay Paky optical grouping, it is three times brighter than an ordinary 1200W wash projector, with the energy consumption of a 300W light bulb. This enables it to be used instead of considerably larger projectors, with enormous savings in energy.
The Aperture and graphics of the "tube of light" can be decided at will by using the eight fixed gobos available, while a linear frost can be used to pass from a narrow hard beam to a more or less soft one. CMY colour mixing and a colour wheel (8+1) allow the light beam to be coloured at will. A dimmer on a dedicated channel, stop/strobe and high speed pan/tilt complete the Alpha Beam 300 configuration.
The fixture has been praised by leading lighting designers and rental companies alike. Ferdinando Cermenati, director of photography, RAI (Italian State Television) said: "The first time I saw them was at Showway in Bergamo, and I was very excited about their power and versatile use, continuity and concentration of the light beam along the full emission length, and the speed of the moving body. The very warm colours are also suitable for TV."
James Harden, general manager at Bandit Lites, said: "The Alpha Beam 300 is a great little light. The movement speed is astonishing due to the weight of the head and the intensity is very punchy for a light of its size. The Alpha Beam 300 is a very good fixture for a great budget."
Martin Hawthorn, managing director of Hawthorns, said: "When I first saw the Alpha product range during its design stages I could immediately see it would be popular with our customers. We added them to our hire stock as soon as they were available and they have never been on the shelves since. Adding the new Alpha Beam 300 is a natural decision!"
Marieke Kers, PR and marketing Ampco Flashlight, Holland remarked: "The Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300 is impressive. Although it's lightweight and has a low power consumption, it produces an amazing and intense narrow beam. This new piece of lighting artillery is unique of its kind; there's absolutely no substitute."
