Strong's New Trouping Power Supply Built to Tour

No longer content to use a common power supply design for both cinema projectors and followspots, Strong will introduce its new line of trouping Power Supplies at the Orlando LDI on November 20 - 22. The switching electronics may be the same reliable design that continues to lead the xenon lamp business, but the new package addresses the rough handling that followspot power supplies endure.
First comes the welded interior frame, a skeleton that supports components without depending on the sheet metal skin. "Dent the shell, and it keeps on trouping," says Paul Rabinovitz, vice president of the Ballantyne Strong Lighting division.
Then there are two over-sized handles that make it easy to lift and even easier to wrap with a hoist sling. The handles perform double duty by protecting the control anel panel from bumps, bruises and blunt force traumas.
Just as Harry Strong responded to the Ice Show industry when he created the first Strong Trouper, the new control panel incorporates several features that stage hands and production companies asked for. The power supply/followspot cable utilizes an easy coupling Veam connector and heavy duty trim pots are designed to keep on trouping even when over torqued. All controls and indicator lights are mounted on the same surface and operators with large hands have plenty of room to work.
"This new product was designed solely for the specialised needs of our lighting customers," said Mr. Rabinovitz. "Even though the cinema projector business represents many times the revenue of our xenon lighting business, the development of the new "Lighting Only" power supply confirms the commitment to live entertainment from the executives and board of Ballantyne Strong."
Yet, Strong Entertainment Lighting has also committed to support the large installed base of existing power supplies. Customers who do not wish to change out all of their Mil-spec connectors for the newer Veam connectors will be able to purchase the older power supply design for many years to come.
Mr. Rabinovitz also said that the Power Supply and previously announced Super Trouper III are only the beginning of the new products and services that Strong Entertainment Lighting will feature at the LDI show in Orlando.
