G-LEC Preview LightFrame at ProLight+Sound
The G-LEC LightFrame was previewed at ProLight+Sound in Frankfurt this week. Following in the footsteps of its big brother the ClassicFrame, which has been making waves on stages, TV studios and at events around the world, the LightFrame an ‘affordable’ transparent LED graphics display curtain, making LED curtain technology attainable for smaller budget productions too.
G-LEC stands for ‘Grid-type LEd Curtain’. The pixels are spaced apart by 60mm and the resulting spaces are transparent, not only to light, but also sound, wind and weather. The transparency allows actors and objects behind the display to be visible when lit, and also allows back-lighting of performers through the display. The ClassicFrame system is often used to hide orchestras and bands and to provide brilliant and dynamic graphics to conceal unsightly speaker stacks.
With the same unsurpassed transparency and lightweight qualities of the original ClassicFrame, the LightFrame is ideal for stage performances. The lightweight square frames, each measuring 0.96m x 0.96m, can be easily assembled and reassembled in any format, providing long term flexibility for any number and type of performances, while its sturdy aluminium frame allows for the rigours of touring. It can be mounted or hung from practically any surface, indoors or outdoors. Both the ClassicFrame and the LightFrame are so lightweight and easily manoeuvrable, they can be assembled and taken down by one technician and one or two helpers – no need for a lift or crane.
The LightFrame’s ultra-bright RGB Pixels are placed in clear tubes, effectively providing a unique 3D display environment. Controllable by any DMX512 source, the LightFrame can be seamlessly integrated into any lighting design and can also display DMX capable graphics. The LightFrame is also RDM ready – which will make patching of large and very large systems all the more manageable.
Unlike the G-LEC ClassicFrame, which is available on a hire basis only, the LightFrame is available to buy. Lars Wolf, managing director of G-LEC Europe, explained: “We’ve already registered a great deal of interest from architectural as well as stage designers, especially for large and very large displays. Following in the success of the G-LEC ClassicFrame we predict it will soon become a firm favourite in the television industry, featuring on large scale entertainment and award shows.”
