Midas & Klark Teknik rock at Rijnweek

Rijnweek 2004 held in Rhenen earlier this month is a big event on the Dutch national music calendar. A week-long multi-cultural festival in which disabled people play a central role, Rijnweek attracts a broad range of artists from rock groups to folk bands. Established nearly a decade ago, the festival attracts more people each year, with the recent 2004 event boasting attendance figures of over 120,000. Audio contractor for the festival was ST Sound based in Tiel which opted for a 48-channel Midas Heritage 1000 for FoH on the main stage running an ElectroVoice XLC rig with EV X-Subs. Klark Teknik DN9848 processors handled system control.
ST Sound is well known in the Dutch market for supplying festival equipment, and Rijnweek represents one of the larger festivals on ST Sound’s summer schedule. “I like this festival for a number of reasons,” says ST’s proprietor, Sander de Kruyff. “For a start, it’s one of the few big, week-long festivals left in Holland, and one of the few that doesn’t charge an entrance fee, yet it still manages to attract a top-class line-up. From an audio contractor’s point of view, this means a huge variety of artists, all with different requirements, so it is imperative to provide a FoH console that is both flexible and easy to use. The Heritage 1000 is a great choice from that point of view, and even offers automation for those who require it. Plus, of course, there is always the ‘Midas recognition’ factor which goes a long way with most engineers, the majority of whom breathe a sigh of relief when they see the distinctive purple chassis on the mixing tower!”
De Kruyff confirmed that the system performed impeccably as per expectation. “The combination of Midas, Klark Teknik and EV is a strong one and popular with most engineers. Rijnweek 2004 was no exception.”
