SSL’s C Series Digital Production Console Makes Middle East Debut

The Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBCI and LBC SAT) has become the first broadcaster in the Middle East to invest in a Solid State Logic C Series digital production console. LBC has installed a C100 digital broadcast console with two GSB stage boxes in its main studios in Adma, a facility that has recently undergone an extensive upgrade.

Alexis El-Henoud, chief audio operator at LBC, says: “Our main reason for choosing SSL technology was the strength of the company’s reputation in the broadcast console market. SSL is a reliable company and we wanted to be sure that any after-sales support we might need would be forthcoming.”

El-Henoud adds that initially LBC looked at the C200 digital production console, but after visiting SSL at the company’s headquarters in Oxfordshire, UK, he opted for a C100 because many of the projects LBC handles at Adma are live music orientated.

“SSL’s technical staff were incredibly helpful,” he says. “We discussed LBC’s needs and they advised me to choose the C100 because it was better suited to our requirements. It is ideal for live broadcast applications and has a control surface that is very easy and intuitive to use. The GSB stage boxes, which have been installed in two separate recording areas that share the same control room, allow us to connect our microphones to the console via remote units and fibre optic cable. This provides us with much more flexibility and improves the overall quality of the audio.”

LBC is about to start work on the second series of Star Academy, Arab’s version of the Academy that aims to uncover and promote new music talent. The console will play a pivotal role in the second series, much of which will be broadcast live to both LBCI and LBC Satellite audiences.

The C100 is a robust console, which is primarily designed for on-air and live to tape production applications. It supports up to 128 input channels and provides simultaneous 5.1, stereo and mono signal paths directly from source through to destination. The console features 80 mix busses for the numerous talent, communication and production area mixes that have become a standard requirement in programme creation.
