Saudi Arabian Hall Installs Allen & Heath Digital Processor
Jeddah Mall, located on one of the city's most prominent shopping streets, has completed an overhaul of its audio systems and installed Allen & Heath's DR66 digital processor at the heart of the new system.
"Audio had always been problematic since the opening of the mall due to the difficult acoustics - there is a high dome, and three tiered floors with walkways positioned on the perimeter overlooking the main seating area," comments Bassam Halwani, managing director of AV installers, HAV professional.
HAV was approached to manage the new installation when the audio requirements were compounded by a further request; the Mall manager wanted to hold special activities during the holidays with performers, speakers and prize draws to entertain the crowds either seated in the café on the ground floor or located on the balcony areas on the upper three floors.
The Allen & Heath DR66 equipped with a delay card was chosen for the job. The unit's DSP functionality controls the difficult acoustics, separating and distributing audio to zones on all four floors and a centre cluster, each with its own level, EQ and delay setting. Different settings for music playback and performers were set up on the DR66, with automatic ducking for announcements or alarms.
A cluster of Tannoy speakers was fitted in the centre of the dome to fill the acoustic void, with further speakers on each floor.
