Public Review: Recommended Practice for Use of Class A Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters
BSR E.19, Recommended Practice for the use of Class A Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) intended for personnel protection in the Entertainment Industry, is available for public review. The draft standard gives advice on where, when, and how to use GFCIs in the entertainment industry. The official ANSI 60-day public review period starts on August 5, but the draft standard is available now at http://www.esta.org/tsp/documents/public_review_docs.php. The public review runs through October 4, and the links on the website will disappear at the beginning of October 5, the ending date noted.
Reviewers also are asked to look for protected intellectual property in the draft standard. ESTA and Accredited Standards Committee E1 do not intend to adopt any standard that requires the use of protected intellectual property, unless that property is required for technical reasons and can be licensed and used by anyone without prejudice or preference for a reasonable fee. Any protected intellectual property in the document should be pointed out in the comments.
BSR E1.19 is a project of the Electrical Power Working Group, which is seeking more members in the interest categories of Dealer/Rental Company and User. Parties that sell or rent power distribution equipment, or that use this equipment, and that are willing to attend meetings to work on standards related to the use of electrical power distribution products, are invited to join the working group. Membership in ESTA is not a requirement. The general purpose working group membership application is available from the ESTA website at http://www.esta.org/tsp/about/workgroups.html or from the Technical Standards Manager. Links on the ESTA website will also lead you to information about current working group's projects.
Please note that voting members are required to attend meetings and to vote on letter ballots. The voters representing a company or organization may not miss more than two consecutive meetings. It does not matter if the principal voter or his or her alternate attends a meeting, but one of them should attend. A principal voter and all alternates will be moved to observer status if they miss three consecutive meets. Meetings are held four times a year, normally in conjunction with Primedia's Entertainment Technology Show (commonly called LDI) and USITT's Conference and Stage Expo. In between those meetings, meetings are held in January and July at a hotel located convenient to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport. There is no charge for attending meetings, but meeting attendees pay their own expenses.
