Wideline Installation Line Array Debuts
Representing the latest addition to QSC's WideLine family of sound reinforcement components, the new Installation Line Array (ILA) has now been released.
The new series is ideally suited for nightclubs, multipurpose theatres, houses of worship, or any other venue seeking professional quality in a lightweight, unobtrusive package.
“One of the main reasons for developing the ILA is to make true line array performance accessible to a far broader range of applications,” QSC's director of product management, Gerry Tschetter says, explaining the underlying goal driving the product introduction. “Most line array systems today are manufactured for the touring sound market, which means that overall, system costs lie well beyond the means of many facilities that could gain direct benefits from the technology. By focusing on fixed installation needs with a moulded enclosure and simplified rigging scheme, QSC has driven costs down while retaining the sound quality, coverage, and acoustic output of touring line array systems.”
Central to meeting the high sonic standards set for each ILA loudspeaker is a unique 2 1/2-way design employing a pair of 8in drivers with 2in voice coils and neodymium magnets. Both of these woofers provide low frequencies, but only one operates in the midrange, thereby providing far better directivity control in the crossover region.
At the high-end, a pair of titanium-dome, neodymium compression drivers with 1.75in voice coils and 1in exits are mounted upon a multiple aperture diffraction waveguide. In combination, these elements deliver extremely wide coverage (140°) that preserves solid stereo imaging throughout the listening area while rarely requiring the use of side or centre-fills.
Operable in bi-amp or tri-amp modes, ILA loudspeaker systems are perfect for both speech and music. For installations requiring extended low frequency response, a companion subwoofer (model WL115-sw) is also offered. Like the full-range ILA enclosures, the WL115-sw comes with its own rigging hardware to accommodate flown applications.
