Control Protocols Interoperability Pavilion Shows Cooperative Diversity
The Control Protocols Interoperability Pavilion, put together for this years’ LDI as part of ESTA’s Technical Standards Program effort, provided examples of ACN (ANSI E1.17) capabilities, and details of the OpenACN project. A comprehensive gathering of RDM (ANSI E1.20) products from 14 different manufacturers was combined for a highly educational demonstration of the RDM “Discovery” process. The variety of controller and test applications demonstrated made it clear how powerful these new protocols, both ACN and RDM, can be. They will help shape the future interoperability of entertainment lighting products and applications.
The Control Protocols Interoperability Pavilion was another great example of manufacturers cooperating for the collective benefit of the Entertainment Lighting industry. The Pavilion was coordinated by Peter Willis, of Howard Eaton Lighting Ltd, with the generous support and participation of the following companies, which contributed the listed product types: Artistic Licence: RDM data distribution, RDM LED control, RDM address changer, and RDM system controller; Howard Eaton Lighting Ltd: RDM Test Equipment, RDM Data Distribution, RDM Consultancy, RDM LED Control, and RDM LED StarCloth; Pathway Connectivity: RDM data distribution and RDM analog/contact interface; Doug Fleenor Design: RDM data distribution, RDM address changer, RDM LED power supply, and RDM coffee brewer; Goddard Design Company: RDM data distribution and RDM test equipment; Wybron: RDM system controller, RDM dimmer, and RDM scrolling color changer; Electronic Theatre Controls: ACN gateways to DMX/MIDI/SMPTE ETC, ACN controllers, and DMX over ACN; Engineering Arts: OpenAcn project, ACN consultancy; Ocean Optics: RDM dichroic color changer; Robe Lighting: RDM Automated luminaire; PR Lighting: RDM automated luminaire; CDS advanced technology bv: RDM dimmer implementation; Electronics Diversified, LLC: RDM dimmer implementation; iLight Technologies: RDM LEDstrip; Enttec: RDM test equipment; City Theatrical, Inc.: RDM dimmer implementation; and Sand Network Systems: ACN software tools.
