Dudes in Dubai: Aerosmith Performs with grandMA
In early 2007 Aerosmith announced their 2007 World Tour, their first tour that included dates outside North America or Japan in nearly a decade. This current tour led the band recently to Dubai. Production Technology LLC (Protec), the Dubai based rental company set up the show that was witnessed by a crowd of nearly 16,000 at Dubai Exiles Rugby Club. For control, two grandMA full-size were used. During the concert they ran in full-tracking backup mode, and because of the excellent reputation of the grandMA it was specified for the whole tour.
The lighting rig included amongst others 12 Clay Paky Alpha Spot 1200 HPEs, 18 Clay Paky Alpha Wash 1200s and 168 Par Cans. They were used to light the 18m x 16m stage with 16m x 11m wings. Rick Wade, Protec’s operation director, said: “I didn’t receive a single complaint about the kit we provided. The Aerosmith crew was extremely happy with the venue, set-up, and of course the turn-out, which was very encouraging. The reason the grandMA full-size was chosen for this show is simply because it is the best machine in the world and there is nothing that could substitute it!” The show also utilized an extensive array of video equipment. Together with Sony cameras, two Christie Roadstar 20ks and four Barco ELM G10 projectors and associated screens were installed.
MA Lighting International recently opened its own office “MA Lighting Middle East India” in Dubai. “The idea of our global network is to getting even closer to the market," says Michael Althaus, managing director of MA Lighting International. "We are following our professional user-centric approach and as a partner we speak the language of the users and listen attentively to their needs.”
