Latest Dynamic Real-Time Load Measurement System from Movecat

Movecat now has a dynamic real-time load measurement system (LMS) in its range that is equipped with a newly developed independent calibration system. The LMS can be used as an overload system for suspension points or as an ancillary component in conjunction with Movecat motorized chain hoists. Various versions of the system are available. The new version is the LMS-M for mobile applications in the following three weight categories: LMS-M 250/500, LMS-M 500/1000 and LMS-M 1500/3000. The LMS-M boasts a robust anodized aluminium housing with three rotatable ring eyelets. The cable outlet, which is on the side, is furnished with a strain relief.
The Movecat LMS-M load measurement system complements the D8/D8 Plus and C1 chain hoists. With the LMS-M it is possible to measure and supervise loads on chain hoists, suspension points, drives and load points simply and effectively. For this purpose the LMS-M can be hung at any position in the load or force path, communicating in real time on the DMS principle with a resistance strain gauge the effective tractive forces and sending this information to the controller unit so that it can be evaluated or processed further. The strain gauge is protected from mechanical and chemical damage by an aluminium tube cast with a highly elastic compound.
The entire system was designed to satisfy the most stringent safety standards, achieving during BGV D8 applications a safety factor of 6 and during D8 Plus / VPLT SR 2.0 and BGV C1 applications a safety factor of 12. If these guidelines are observed, no secondary safety system is required for D8 Plus and BGV C1 applications. The application range has been designed also in such a way that the nominal load is in each case available as an effective suspension load, but the system is still however capable of establishing and evaluating overload conditions of up to 150 per cent. In addition the developers have integrated a novel calibration and testing system that checks to ensure correct functioning with a Movecat LMS or MPC-1 system controller each time the system is powered up.
In the course of the calibration procedure, the length of the control lead up to a maximum of 100 metres as well as possible temperature variations are taken into account. A self-check can even be conducted with a suspended load. System errors are immediately detected by the controller and depending upon the type of controller and its settings these are either displayed or the system shut down. In its current version, the system even complies with the requirements of SIL3/EN 61508. In connection with the Movecat MPC-I series controllers and LMS LRC, load values can be ascertained in real time and displayed in either kilograms or percentage terms, whereby both overload and underload conditions can be defined and controlled. In this way the risk of overloading connected drives, suspension points or supporting structures is efficiently eliminated.
