Cadac S-Digital at Prolight + Sound

Cadac showed its S-Digital theatre and live production console system in final production form at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt. The apex of Cadac's proprietary digital R&D programme, the S-Digital is Cadac's most significant product development since the launch of the industry standard J-type in 1992.

Designed from the ground up for the theatre and live sound markets, the S-Digital uniquely combines the audio character, tools, features and surface architecture of the Cadac J-Type, with the operational capabilities afforded by the most intuitive and advanced digital live production console yet designed.

Optimal system features include hot swappable input and output modules, embedded signal processing (ensuring no loss of console operation in the event of Control Surface Manager or Sound Automation computer failure), dedicated show automation software, and full redundancy backups on power supplies, inter-system communications, audio path and control.

Commenting on the S-Digital development, Peter H McGuire, operations manager, Cadac Holdings Ltd., stated: "From its conception the S-Digital was engineered, in conjunction with practicing sound engineers, with the express intention of replicating the surface architecture and audio quality of the Cadac J-Type, extending functionality and providing an entirely new level of control. The console further integrates all of the digital processing, traditionally provided with external equipment usually stowed under the console or around the sound booth, contributing to a far smaller system footprint. The S-Digital offers the sound designer a tool for the specific task of achieving a first class sound experience for the audience."

The S-Digital has attracted a substantial number of pre-orders, and the first of these are currently being commissioned. Two production consoles were on the Cadac stand at Prolight + Sound, one on the exhibition floor demonstrating the operational functions and SAM2 Show Automation Management program, and a console in the Ronnie Lane Mobile Studio Airstream caravan parked on the stand, providing ‘live' mixing demonstrations.
