Expansion for Centre Stage Engineering
Centre Stage Engineering are commencing their sixth year of trading with a full order book, an increased workforce and the recent awarding of ISO 9001 certification as a demonstration of their desire to enhance customer satisfaction. Centre Stage have also been appointed as a recognised designer and installer by Gala Systems of Canada for their unique Spiralift drive transmission system used in stage elevators.
The recent doubling of the factory floor space to accommodate a stand–alone, in-house manufacturing and fabrication facility, means that the company can now tackle a range of projects, from small to large, with the confidence that the finished product can be delivered on time and within budget. Centre Stage’s commitment to the future of stage engineering in East Anglia was confirmed by their appointment of a young design engineer to the team at the start of the year, their establishment of a contributory company pension plan and a mechanical engineering apprenticeship scheme.
Current projects include the supply and installation of all the stage machinery at the new prestigious Perth Concert Hall - with theatre consultants Carr & Angier - and the installation of two Spiralift stage elevators at the BBC Radio Theatre in Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London. The equipment for the Concert Hall in Perth comprises a large orchestra pit elevator employing Spiralift technology and an auditorium seating elevator that uses screwjacks to raise and lower the whole auditorium floor, accommodating 24 seating wagons on air castors. Eight motorised hoists, two motorised acoustic reflectors, 36 fixed reflectors and Triple E’s unique acoustic banner system are also being installed by Centre Stage in time for the building handover in January 2005.
Work due to start before the end of the year includes the installation of five hydraulic scissor lifts at Central Hall, Westminster and the supply and installation of all the stage machinery at the new Peepul Centre in Leicester – with consultants Theatre Projects and project co-ordinators Charcoal Blue. Further work in the New Year includes the refurbishment of the counterweight flying system at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen, together with the installation of five motorised hoists plus ancillary theatre equipment.
Centre Stage Engineering are now firmly established within the stage engineering industry as an experienced company that offers a comprehensive service involving project design and specification, electrical panel building, mechanical fabrication, complete installations and equipment maintenance and LOLER inspections.
