FX Rentals for Urban Music Seminar
FX Rentals once again provided sound systems for the Urban Music Seminar held at London's Royal Festival Hall.
The Urban Music Seminar (UMS) was formed in 1998 to inform and educate young people about working in the music industry, and is now annually attracting around 15,000 visitors. Expert panels hosted by celebrities and music industry executives and offering advice on A&R, artist relations, legal issues, marketing, promotion and publishing are held in the main auditorium, which can accommodate up to 4,000 people. The event also features live performances, celebrity speakers, master classes, a sound stage for unsigned acts and networking and employment opportunities. This year’s event attracted a host of names including Matthew Knowles (manager, Destiny’s Child), Damon Dash (CEO, Roc-A-Fella) Bobby Friction (Radio 1 DJ and artists Lemar, Hinda Hicks, Shola Ama, Adam F and Black Twang, Shurwin Beckford, (channel manager, MTV Base) and TV presenters Lisa IıAnson and June Sarpong.
"FX Rentals and Urban Music Seminar have built up a relationship over the past seven years and it has gone from strength to strength," says Steve Marston, producer and managing director of the Urban Music Seminar. "It’s great to have a one-stop shop when it come to pro audio gear, and the excellent technical support is second to none. FX Rentals is able to cover all aspects of equipment hire, from home studio to pro studio to live events, and this has coincided perfectly with my direction over the last 15 years."
FX provided radio mics, processing and decks for the panels held in the main auditorium, a PA system, audio equipment and an engineer for one of the master class rooms and a PA system and engineer for the sound stage in the Grand Ballroom of the Royal Festival Hall.
FX's Gus Fernald ran the sound stage, which presented artists performing live vocals to CD backing tracks. The equipment package included a 3Khz PA system and monitors, a Mackie 1604VLZ mixing console, four Shure UHF radio mic kits, a Lexicon PCM80 digital effects processor, two Denon DN-C630 CD players, two Technics SL1210 turntables and a Pioneer DJM600 DJ Mixer.
In the master class room, FX’s Kevin Jacobs once again worked a setup of two Mackie SRM450 speakers, a Mackie 1604VLZ mixing desk, a Shure UHF radio headset kit, four AKG 451 table mics, a Pioneer DVD656 DVD/SACD player, two Technics SL1210 turntables and a Pioneer DJM600 DJ mixer.
For the main auditorium FX provided six Shure UHF radio mic kits, four Technics SL1210 turntables, two Pioneer CDJ1000 CD turntables, two Pioneer DJM600 DJ Mixers, eight AKG C480 table mics and stands, a Pioneer DV565 DVD player and six Sennheiser in ear monitor systems.
