Nexo in Strasbourg Rhenus
Originally used for live music events, the Rhenus hall in Strasbourg is known to many sound engineers around the world as a compulsory stop on major world tours. The hall has recently been completely refurbished and divided into two separate venues, one dedicated to concert activity as well as corporate events, and the other turned into one of France’s most modern basketball halls.
The 4,500-seat venue is the first indoor sports hall in France to benefit from a Nexo GEO-S tangent array sound reinforcement system. Denis Fenninger, technical supervisor at Lagoona, the contractors in charge of the installation, explained the reasons behind his choice. "A very accurate analysis of the hall’s acoustics was completed prior to the installation of the system. The sound engineers and the architects worked closely together to achieve optimal reverb reflections.
"Given the dimensions and acoustic characterists of the venue, we were confident that a linear array system which would fit in perfectly, and be the natural successor to the type of horn-loaded systems generally used in these environments. On top of this, we knew that the installation of the Nexo GEO-S would be easier and more cost-effective than a conventional system, which requires days of cabling. As a matter of fact, it only took us half a night to get it up and running, and the result was impressive straight away. On the evening of the official inauguration, the coach of the national basketball team was full of compliments, declaring that he d never heard such a crisp and clear sound in any stadium around France."
The GEO S system, hung above the playing area on a 2x2 m cast iron grid, comprises four arrays each featuring 6x S805 vertical tangent array modules with 1x S830 vertical/horizontal tangent array module. A dedicated platform was designed to house the eight Camco Vortex 6 power amplifiers. The whole system, controlled by two NX241 digital management systems, and a Yamaha 01V 96 digital console is always on hand during training sessions or games.
