Robbie McGrath Endorses Midas’s New Digital Console Technology
According to Midas-KT sales and marketing director, David Cooper, it was an interesting moment for all concerned. “We’ve known Robbie for a very long time, and we know him to be a die-hard fan of Midas analogue consoles, especially of the legendary XL4 EQ. We also know him to be extremely outspoken and not afraid to say exactly what he thinks; indeed he’s gone on record a number of times to say that while a digital console may have its uses in certain applications, if it’s impeccable audio quality you’re after, then nothing can beat an analogue board, preferably an XL4! So, we were all on tenterhooks to see how he’d react to the digital EQ we’ve developed, as it is such a key part of our new digital console.”
Robbie agreed. “I was fascinated to see what the back-room boys at Midas would come up with, but at the same time, almost frightened to test it in case I hated it! Fortunately, I needn’t have worried. They’ve done their job well. I tested this EQ to within an inch of its life, and I can say quite categorically that it’s the closest thing I have ever heard to an analogue EQ, in particular a Midas analogue EQ, and they don’t come any better than that. I’ve listened to a lot of digital EQs, and Coop is right – for me they don’t come anywhere near an analogue EQ in terms of sound quality. However, this new Midas module is pretty damned close. I won’t say AS good as an XL4 EQ, but within a gnat’s whisker. On the one hand I’m tempted to say that I’d expect nothing less of Midas, but on the other, I’m pretty impressed. I’d expected good, but not that good. I can’t wait to see the rest of the board now!”
