Top AV Awards for Electrosonic

Electrosonic was awarded four top accolades at the 2004 UK AV Awards, including the Grand Prix Award which is chosen from the winners of all the other categories. At the Awards Ceremony, held in Newport, Wales, Electrosonic was for the second year running judged to be the winner of Systems Company of the Year and Service Company of the Year. Building on last year’s success, the company also collected the award for Installation of the Year.

The awards are judged wholly independently by two panels of judges drawn from a range of AV disciplines – including consultants, producers, service providers and end users.

Electrosonic’s submission for Systems Company of the Year was based on the work achieved by its UK Solutions Business. Systems typically include techniques for handling high definition video, networked control and image streaming, remote facilities management, and control of audio and lighting systems. Comprehensive contract and project management systems are in use, and strong evidence of customer satisfaction was provided. Statistical results, as well as customer commendations, showed that actual versus estimated project costings for the last year were all within budget and accurate to within a few percentage points.

The panel of independent judges commented: “Electrosonic won this category because of the innovation it brought to complex projects, as well as for its consistent standards of technical excellence.”

As Service Company of the Year, the turnover of the Electrosonic UK Service Business has grown year on year by 20%, and the number of sites at which its staff work has doubled. Contract renewal rates are running at over 92%. Electrosonic measures customer satisfaction in four ways, including formal surveys which indicate that customers rate detailed service items at very good or excellent. Improvements to the Electrosonic service systems include a dedicated staff intranet available to employees working at client sites, call logging software linked to customer satisfaction analysis, and remote equipment monitoring using Electrosonic’s own software. Other features include cost transparency, which can result in rebates to customers.

The judges commented on the rise in standards in the AV service sector over the past few years, and gave the award to Electrosonic for innovation and the growth of its service business.

Electrosonic was awarded Installation of the Year for its work at Space Park Bremen. This was a two year project for Electrosonic, which was responsible for the audio, video and control of the general exhibition areas, park-wide sound and five of the main attractions. The sheer amount of equipment to commission was staggering – seven control rooms, 33 networked DSP audio processors, 20 HD players – but this was only one aspect of the project. Working with a number of other suppliers and a varying timetable, called on Electrosonic’s project management skills, while integrating sub-control systems such as lighting into its overall control system provided another technical challenge.

The judges commented: “The scale of Electrosonic’s work for Space Center Bremen and its ability to cope with a mass of suppliers, different languages and working practices helped win it this year’s installation award.”

And finally – The Grand Prix Award, which is chosen from the winners of all the categories. This was the opinion of the judging panel: “Electrosonic’s consistent innovation, high technology and service standards, and its ability to change its business to meet market demands meant that it just had to be this year’s Grand Prix winner. Over the last 40 years, Electrosonic has won Queens Awards and countless other awards. It has changed its focus from manufacturing to service and systems. But it’s still managed to stay ahead of the game and is a great ambassador for British AV.”
