Alto Unveils New PS4

Launched in May 2004 to immediate acclaim and instant sales success, the active PS4HA has gone of to be one of the fastest-selling products in UK distributor Proel’s history, the company says. But great as it is, the 350+60W PS4HA is just too powerful for some users, who have been asking Proel for a lower-powered version.

Enter the brand new bi-amped 220+40W Alto PS4LA, which uses the same advanced trapezoidal moulded ABS enclosure, containing a 12” LF speaker with a 2” voice coil, and a single HF compression driver, fitted with a 1” voice coil.

Driving the system is a perfectly matched amplification section with 220 Watts LF output derived from a Class H power amplifier and 40 Watts HF output unit from a Class AB power amp. As with their big brothers, the PS4L’s specifications are excellent. Maximum SPL at 1M is 119.5dB and the frequency response is 55Hz-20kHz +/- 10dB. The Altos come with a built-in crossover and full speaker protection using an analogue limiter and compressor.

But more impressive than the specifications alone, says Proel’s sales and marketing manager Mark Parkhouse, is the subjective sound quality. “The Alto PS4HA has been a runaway success for us, not just because it offers great value for money, but because it sounds so good. The new PS4LA sounds just as good and brings the PS4 series to a new market, which doesn’t need high power but still demands superb build quality and a classy sound at a very affordable price."
