An Eye to the Future with Visual-Patch

Artistic Licence has announced their latest piece of cutting edge technology for the lighting industry: Visual-Patch.

Visual-Patch takes the drudgery out of lighting. No more patching, no more start addresses, no more head scratching! It is often said that the best inventions are the simple ones and that’s true with Visual-Patch. Artistic Licence has combined the power of the new Remote Device Management (RDM) protocol, a lighting console and a video camera.

You simply point the camera at the stage and press the Visual-Patch button. The lighting console uses RDM to switch each lamp on in turn. It analyses the position, shape and size of the lamp using the video camera, adds it to the patch and automatically sets the lamp start address. The result: you get a short coffee break whilst the console builds your patch, then go straight to show programming!

The first product to implement Visual-Patch is Colour-Tramp, the lighting console optimised for control of two and three dimensional arrays of colour changers. Visual-Patch allows large arrays of pixels to be mapped and patched with ease. This is of particular benefit in random pixel arrangements such a ‘video on star cloth’ applications.

Visual-Patch was demonstrated at the recent LDI trade show in Las Vegas where Artistic Licence report that customer feedback was a unanimous 'Wow!'

Patents are pending worldwide and Visual-Patch is a trade mark of Artistic Licence (UK) Ltd.
