Audio-Technica on Blue Whirlwind Tour
Multi million selling pop artists Blue recently completed a whirlwind tour of South East Asia, the Middle East and India, using Audio-Technica Artist Elite wireless microphone technology on all the band's vocals.
The tour - a 16 day round trip of 21,271 miles through eight cities in eight countries - demanded reliable equipment to meet an extreme schedule. Six Audio-Technica AEW-T6100 handheld radio microphones, three AEW-R5200 receivers, an AEW-DA860 Distribution Amplifier and an ATW-A49 antenna distribution system, put in a faultless performance, ensuring that at each show the local production was fed with high quality, completely dependable audio.
Having used the same system on Blue's tour of Japan earlier this year, monitor engineer Jon Burton knew they could rely on the "excellent sound quality" and "rock solid performance" of the A-T system: “With so little time at some of the venues, it was essential to have a system that we knew, trusted and was easy to set up. A-T product manager Paul Mason has been very supportive and had shown me the Artist Elite software on a previous tour. Its benefits were obvious; I downloaded it onto my laptop, connected up the receivers via Ethernet, scanned each of the venues and the software reset all the receivers automatically.”
The system's multi voltage power supply also played its part and from Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur the tour remained free from drop outs and interference, despite only having a very small window of frequencies to operate within in some countries: “This system has become my favorite by far," adds Burton, "and the time saved by being able to assign frequencies automatically, using the frequency tables already in the software, was vital to the smooth running of the shows. The pressure was really on for some of them as we weren't landing until three hours before doors. As well as sounding great, the hyper-cardioid capsules rejected feedback excellently, even with the 'unpredictability' of a few of the sound systems we had to use.”
