Holland’s RAI Convention Centre opts for Midas, KT and EV
Midas Consoles Holland and Electric Audio have announced that following intensive market research and product testing, the RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam, home to many professional audio trade shows including IBC, has opted for a complete Midas, Klark Teknik and ElectroVoice package to equip their newly refurbished auditorium.
While the auditorium remains first and foremost the RAI's largest conference hall, following the refurbishment, the venue has gained an extra function: after 6pm and at weekends the auditorium becomes the Amsterdam RAI Theatre in which no fewer than 1750 people can now enjoy stage productions and musical performances.
The auditorium/RAI Theatre needed a high quality sound system that could handle everything with ease from handle classical music, speech reinforcement and musicals to full-on rock concerts without the need for re-tuning. The tender asked for a true line array system and high-end analogue mixing consoles complete with an almost fully automated EQ system. Midas Consoles Holland, exclusive distributors for Midas and Klark Teknik throughout the Netherlands, along with EV's distributor, Electric Audio, were able to come up with a complete package that met all of the tender's requirements.
At the heart of the system are two Midas Verona consoles; a Midas Verona 400 handling FoH requirements while a Verona 320 looks after monitors. System processing for the EV Xlc line array system is managed by a Klark Teknik DN9848 digital loudspeaker processor while FoH EQ is handled by a DN9340 Helix system. A DN9344 Helix slave is deployed to look after EQ and delay for both the under-balcony and front-fill speakers. A further two Midas Venice 320 consoles have been supplied to serve the smaller halls within the theatre building. The complete package was delivered and installed by professional audio systems integrators, Pieee Solutions based in Apeldoorn.
The RAI's chief engineer, Peter de Beukelaer, had no hesitation in opting for the Midas-KT-EV solution. "We tried out a number of different systems, but nothing gave us the dynamic headroom and audio clarity of this combination. In addition to the superb audio quality, it is also extremely easy to operate which is important when you have so many visiting engineers. Not only are they all recognised brands, which instantly puts an engineer at ease, but in terms of EQ, we can pre-program the Helix system to get the room sounding the way we like it, and then present engineers with a "flat" set of graphics so they can tweak afterwards if they like, without it interfering with our own settings. It's a great solution!"
