Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Selects Cadac R-Type
Cadac is to supply two R-Type Live Production Consoles to the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with local distributor Sennheiser Asia winning the bid after a competitive tender of nearly two years' duration. Located adjacent to the twin towers of PETRONAS (Petroliam Nasional Berhad), the new building is due to open in early 2005, with the R-Types being installed during November 2004. The consoles comprise two frames, each of which is configured with an equal output section for standalone use. The frames can be quickly connected together to provide a larger format console as and when required, providing the KLCC with completely flexible, scalable options to cater for a wide range of production types and sizes.
Craig Lovell (Cadac Sales - Asia Pacific) has worked closely with the Sennheiser Asia team over the past 24 months on the KLCC project, commenting: “This is a terrific win for Cadac and Sennheiser Asia, representing one of the most prestigious contracts in the area for a long time. The KLCC sound project is a complex one, involving both consultants and integrators. Their brief was to tackle the challenges associated with a new build of this magnitude, as well as assembling a truly versatile sound system that could handle anything from an awards production to a huge multi-talent show. The R-Type's design is an ideal match to KLCC's requirements - in terms of the facilities and configurability it offers, as well as extremely competitive pricing. Sennheiser Asia worked hard to achieve a solution for KLCC which successfully matched the technical and budgetary requirements, and we are delighted to have been selected.”
The R-Type's comprehensive facilities, as well as the ease with which the console can be reconfigured, were key factors in KLCC's choice. Cadac'sunique plug-anywhere modules allow the console to be set up quickly and easily to match a given project's requirements, while multiple frames can be securely connected via resilient audio umbilical and power cables. At its opening next year, KLCC will offer one of the largest and more advanced facilities in the region, with an underlying and highly futuristic Malaysian-inspired architectural theme. KLCC comprises a 3,000 seat plenary hall, 500-seat theatre, 10,000 sq metres of open-access exhibition space, two large conference halls, a grand ballroom, banqueting hall, and meeting rooms. An unusual added feature is the walk-through aquarium, showcasing more than 3,000 species of local tropical marine life.
