Sky Channel Australia Standardizes to JVC Monitors

Sky Channel have purchased and installed over 50 JVC professional TM-A101G ten inch (25cm) and TM-H1950CGE nineteen inch (48cm) monitors in the master control room, presentation suite and control rooms at their Frenchs Forest, New South Wales studios, having decided to make JVC monitors the standard for their purchases in the future. The installation was completed in October.

Sky Channel broadcasts over 50,000 races per year from over 250 geographically diverse racetracks so the quality of equipment in the control rooms has to be excellent, reliable and cost effective. The monitors were bought and installed over a six-month period, only after a comprehensive evaluation of functionality and price of all competitive monitors..The result of the evaluation was a change in policy by Sky Channel and a move away from their current monitor supplier to JVC.

Sky Channel Assistant chief engineer Mark Downes commented: “In assessing the monitors for all the control rooms we found JVC to offer exceptional quality and value for money. The ten inch monitors are 16:9 switchable which means that, in the future, we can have a 16:9 control room without having to change our monitors. It is also multi-standard PAL/NTSC which is very important to us as we have circuits from the USA and are getting NTSC programming all the time. In the nineteen-inch monitors again the JVC units proved to be by far the most cost effective and not only did they have better geometry they weighed less too. These monitors are also housed in smaller cabinets and, fitting into a standard seventeen inch rack, give us more room. The final selling point was JVC’s standard of service. I have always found them to be attentive, prompt and very keen to make sure we are happy and have everything we need. When we buy any more ten or nineteen-inch monitors, they will definitely be JVC.”

   The JVC TM-A101G is a 10" (25cm) 300TVL colour video monitor with PAL/NTSC composite video input, 16:9/4:3 aspect ratio select, audio input and bridged output measuring 220mm H x 222mm W x 316.3mm D and weighing 6.8kg.

   The TM-H1950CGE is a 19" (48cm) 750TVL colour video monitor with composite and Y/C video inputs, an input slot for optional component/SDI cards, audio input, 16:9 or 4:3 selectable aspect ratio, has PAL/NTSC compatibility, measures 375mm H x 440mm W x 496mm D and weighs 20.1kg.

Sky’s decision to invest in JVC monitors in Australia mirrors the decision that its counterpart in the UK took several years ago. Here, their Isleworth studios are populated by a variety of JVC CRT, LCD and plasma monitors.
