Sound Devices 744t Hard Disk Recorder Launched At SBES

Both the high-resolution 722 and 744T audio recorders shatter the size, performance and feature-set paradigms of previous generations of audio recorders. They are the essential replacement for digital and analogue tape-based portable recorders - replacing them with a far more powerful file-based digital recording devices. The two-track 722 and four-track 744T write and play audio files with bit depths of 24 or 16 bit, with sample rates up to 192 kHz, including pull-up sample rates.

The 722 and 744T user interface places the operator first where the learning curve is short as well as being powerful and accessible. With documentary and ENG recording engineers in mind, the recorders are as small as practical without compromising their usability. While the 722 and 744T are very capable recorders alone, they excel when used in conjunction with Sound Devices 442 or 302 audio mixers.

Both the 722 and 744T implement a no-compromise audio path with Sound Devices next generation microphone preamplifiers. Designed specifically for high-bandwidth, high bit-rate digital recording, these preamps set a new standard for linearity, distortion performance and low-noise gain.

The 744T 's Ambient-supplied time code implementation is the perfect tool for dual-system sound recording, for both over-the-shoulder and cart-based audio-for-picture production. Its temperature-compensated crystal is tunable to very high accuracies (<0.2 ppm) and has the stability to be the production's master clock.

Both the 7-Series recorders write to two recording media, hard drive and Compact Flash. These industry-standard volumes are easily sourced and user replaced and writes industry-standard .wav, .bwf, and .mp3 audio files. Plus both models boast a removable, rechargeable battery that is a standard Sony-compatible L- or M-type Lithium Ion cell and easily interconnect with Windows and Mac OS computers for audio data transfer and backup.
