Stanton Str8 Decks Light Up KOKO’s New Booth

The straight-arm turntable is one of a trio of Stanton products - including 680HP and 890FS-MP4 cartridges and new Pro 3000 headphones - installed by the Xtreme project managers, Darren Lambert and John ‘Tintin’ Nightingale.

“Owners, the Mint Group, wanted to break from the norm and try some different turntables - an opinion voiced by a number of people,” said John. “Fortunately they had the courage to do it - and it has proved a great decision.”

It was Nodd McDonagh of Push Events, who pointed operations director Larry Seymour in the right direction, having become involved as a consultant after working on outdoor festivals with the Mint Group.

He had not forgotten how successful and popular the Stanton super high torque STR8-100 turntables - with S/PDIF digital outputs - had proved when he made the progressive decision to install them at the Ministry of Sound (during his long stewardship there).

“I’m delighted with the way the Stanton decks worked continuously without problem at the Ministry. Not only did they never roll over and give up but they look really great and have the digital output.

“DJ booths have to look immaculate,” he continued. “At KOKO the end result is a lovely tidy DJ box, glowing blue from the Littlites. “With the direction music content and delivery is taking, products like the STR8-150 will make sure that the record deck doesn’t fall into disuse. At KOKO they have blended well into a tiny environment which can play CD’s, minidiscs and vinyl.”

Meanwhile, the new DJ PRO 3000 headphone has been designed for the new millennium. It boasts swivel and folding capabilities, high pass and low pass filter, detachable cord and sexy cool blue LED’s. “I was also happy to recommend the PRO 3000 to the club,” continued Nodd. “It was a decision fully justified by the speed at which Lamba responded, and the help and assistance they gave us throughout.”

Housed in a 1500-capacity Grade I-listed former theatre, KOKO is open three nights a week.
