Up the Junction with Planet Platforms
The Junction live music venue in Cambridge has purchased a modified Genie cherry picker from workplace access specialists Planet Platforms (Eastern) Ltd.
The Genie Z3422 narrow aisle electric boom unit has been specially fitted with a modification to restrict the height of the boom knuckle as a safety precaution as well as being given a snazzy paint job in the corporate yellow and purple of the Junction. The machine is being used by the Junction’s in house crew to set stages with both lighting and sound rigs in The Stripe, the Junction’s Live and Loud auditorium, which plays host to a number of leading acts; Travis, The Zutons, The Delays and The Bees are amongst the bands to have played the venue in recent months.
Robin Townley, development director for the operating company, Junction CDC Ltd, explained the reasons behind the purchase: “The Stripe doubles up as a live music venue and as a nightclub, so we’re constantly changing both the house lighting and sound rigs. As with all responsible venues, the well-being of our crew is top priority, so we have to ensure that the right equipment is in place and that our staff are trained to work safely. Planet Platforms (Eastern) Ltd. has helped us to achieve with its invaluable advice and support.”
With the production industry conscious of the risks of working at height, the Planet Platforms Group has a history of working closely with performing arts venues to reduce the inherent dangers involved. Recent projects, installations and training campaigns have included The Royal Opera House, The Millennium Dome and The Royal Albert Hall.
