Blitz Brings Bollywood Beats To West-End World Premiere
Blitz, one of the UK's leading providers of audiovisual equipment and services, supplied and installed a state-of-the-art cinema surround system for the recent world premiere of 'Bride & Prejudice' at the London Palladium theatre.
The staging of the premiere in one of London's largest West-End theatres demonstrates how Blitz can easily adapt its dynamic sound systems to unique environments. Blitz's sound designer Richard Rogers, explained that "one week before the event we checked the acoustics at the Palladium. We wanted to make sure that we could bring alive this film to really give this musical justice. The equipment provided on the night included, a Yamaha DM2000 sound desk with 24 d&b Q1 loudspeakers. It also included d&b Q-subwoofers placed behind the screen, and d&b Q7's mounted in the theatre for the surround channels. Four Sennheiser mics were used onstage for speeches by the director Gurinder Chadha and principal cast members before the film."
Rogers added: "Pathe Film Distribution had an excellent opportunity to hold their event in a really unique setting, a movie premiere in a theatre is certainly not a frequent occurrence. Consequently, we analysed the extra dimensions that might not have been so prevalent in a different arena. Space is immediately a challenge but there is also a big test in terms of the acoustics. We worked closely with Bell Theatre Services, who projected the 35mm film, and an engineer from Dolby. We were delighted that our solution met the practical needs of the theatre and the film makers. It was nice to have seen so many smiling faces leave the premiere, humming along to the soundtrack!"
Production manager Andy Peat, from Andy Peat Associates remarked: "Blitz was very professional in the way they went about a rather unique event. The state of the art equipment was perfect. We called Blitz because we know just how much experience they have in handling the acoustics in unique venues. Evidently, from the great success of the night, Blitz proved to be the right choice."
