FX Rentals Supplies PA Systems For Unsigned Talent Events

FX Rentals has been busy supplying PA systems in a bid to challenge new talent at Unsigned Bands evenings across London.

The first of the recent events was Best of ITC Urban Unsigned held at the capitalšs Embassy Club and organised by the promoters of In The City including Emily Taylor from The Dairy. A total of 15 unsigned urban acts a cross section of the best talent from Septemberšs In The City in Manchester - appeared across the evening, which was hosted by established urban stars JD and Kele LeRoc. FX provided a pair of Mackie SRM450 speakers with HZ PB400 sub bass units and three SRM450s as floor monitors, plus a Mackie 1604 VLZ mixer and four Shure UHF radio mic systems for vocalists performing to backing tracks. Also supplied were a pair of Technics 1210 decks, a Pioneer DJM600 mixer and Denon DN-2100F dual CD player, and backline in the form of a Roland JC120 guitar combo and Roland Cube 60 keyboard combo.

Two London studios also hosted unsigned bands evenings, the first at Whitfield Street as part of the Big Night In charity event. Here a system of Mackie SRM450 speakers with HZ PB400 sub bass units and a Mackie CFX16 mixer with onboard effects was provided, along with backline gear including a Yamaha 9000 Studio Series drumkit, an Ampeg SVTII head bass amp with an Ampeg 4x10 speaker cab and a Yamaha P250 digital piano. Among the talent performing on the night was Big O Small z, a band comprised of FX employees who have yet to give up their day jobs, plus Girl Friday managed by the FX Groupšs new business manager (and sometime talent scout) Gary Jackson.

Girl Friday also took to the stage at the Metropolis bash, which once again featured four Mackie SRM450 speakers with HZ PB400 sub bass units and three SRM450s as floor monitors, along with a Soundcraft K3 40-channel live console and selection of mics including classic Shure SM57s and 58s. Other bands to perform included Redstar, Lazy Habits, Yanke Nine Niner and Great Bear.

"We were delighted with the quality of the performance of the bands and that over 30 A&R people attended what was a great afternoon," says Alison Hussey, business development manager at Metropolis. "It was a pleasure to be working with the guys from FX on this event; as usual they were consummate professionals and the day went smoothly with no technical hitches. Their enthusiasm and support for new music is well known in the industry but it was nice to see them enjoying themselves too!"
