Work Begins on Wembley Arena Pavilion
The UK has never seen a project of this type, made possible by a collaboration involving leading events suppliers. The 10,000 capacity venue will be opened in February by X Factor Live and is already confirmed to host a stream of concerts, including Blue, McFly, Anastacia and Westlife. The Pavilion is being built in the car park area adjacent to both Wembley Arena and the new Wembley Stadium. Construction is expected to take two months and will see the Pavilion open as Wembley Arena closes in late January
Arena Structures MD Grahame Muir explained: “We have combined modern structures, engineering technology and years of events expertise to create a semi-permanent venue. The Arena Group is providing the TFS structure, seating for 10,000 and all of the facilities you would expect in a modern venue. Star Events Group will “marry” their staging to our structure to ensure all of the staging and rigging capacities demanded by modern productions are achieved.”
Clear Channel Entertainment director John Probyn was also on site beginning his role to oversee the construction of the Pavilion. John Probyn commented: “We have a great team of people working on this project and I am excited at the prospect of creating a venue that will the first of its kind in the UK.”
Peter Tudor, sales and marketing director of Wembley added: “We have put a huge amount of thought and work into creating the Pavilion, as we wanted to create a top quality venue whilst the Arena is closed. We’ve assembled the best possible team to work on the project and are looking forward to hosting the first events in February 2005.”
