Croatian Radio Buys Europe’s First SSL C200 Digital Console

Croatian Radio, part of Croatia’s national broadcaster HRT (RTV Croatia), has become the first broadcaster in Europe to invest in a Solid State Logic C200 digital production console.

Zagreb-based Croatian Radio has taken delivery of a 32-fader frame C232 console with in-line configuration and a StageBox, fully loaded with remote Mic Amps. The desk has been installed in a new outside broadcast vehicle built by UK coachbuilder, Spectra. The vehicle is now in Croatia where the broadcaster’s own engineering team are installing ancillary equipment and wiring in readiness for its launch in May.

SSL sales manager Damir Begovic was responsible for the sale. He says: “This is the third, large-scale digital console that Solid State Logic has delivered to Croatian National Broadcaster, HRT. In 2001, Croatian TV installed an Aysis Air Plus in a new TV production studio and the following year Croatian Radio took delivery of our flagship all-digital MT Console for its main music production studio.”

Begovic adds that he is delighted SSL has become so closely associated with HRT and is personally very proud of the fact that the console manufacturer is now the Croatian national broadcaster’s de-facto standard when it comes to large-scale all-digital consoles. “I believe this relationship is one that will continue for a long time and I look forward to further projects with the HRT,” he says.

Croatian Radio’s decision to buy a C232 console came after a delegation from the broadcaster visited Solid State Logic’s Oxfordshire headquarters last September for a hands-on demonstration of both the C200 and C100 digital production consoles. The C200 matched Croatian Radio’s operational requirements and the following month the broadcaster put the console decision out to public tender. SSL was amongst three manufacturers who responded to the tender.

Croatian Radio’s project engineer Kresimir Banek says: “By equipping our new, dedicated Radio OB truck with an SSL C232 console, we are at last able to meet the requirements of even the most demanding location projects. SSL’s renowned reliability, coupled with the C232’s unique features and in-line flexibility, gives our sound engineers absolute confidence and great operational ease.”

Since its launch just over a year ago, Solid State Logic’s C200 digital production has achieved numerous sales worldwide, including six consoles to the Fox Network in the US and four sales to various facilities in Japan. The console represents the latest evolution of SSL's 'knob per function' design and is specifically suited to 5.1 audio production and multipurpose studio applications. Based on entirely new processing technology, the C200 delivers superior audio performance at 48kHz and 96kHz operation and, unlike some consoles, retains all of its bussing capability at both sample frequencies.
