Metal and Glass Hold Their Own: DHA Reports Rising Gobo Sales
Though it is widely reported that the age of video has arrived, with the latest generation of high-tech lighting products able to replay and project just about any moving or still image, the humble gobo is holding its own! DHA Lighting Services, the world’s leading gobo manufacturer, has seen its gobo sales increase by over 25% in the last 12 months relative to the 12 months prior to that.
“Though video devices are proving increasingly popular, they are still very expensive and out of reach for many people. A gobo in a standard spotlight can create a dramatic effect for a remarkably small outlay,” comments DHA’s Diane Grant.
DHA Lighting makes it as easy as possible for people to find the perfect gobo for their needs, offering catalogues in paper and CD-ROM form as well as a fully searchable gobo library on their website, http://www.dhalighting.co.uk. The company also continues to make gobos as affordable as possible and custom metal gobos are actually cheaper than they were in 2002, with the creation of a first custom metal gobo using DHA’s standard four day service costing just £30 plus VAT; faster services, including a same-day service, are also available.
DHA also claim to offer the fastest monochrome glass gobo service in the UK, with gobos now available same-day as standard, and they are about to announce dramatically lower prices for their spot colour custom glass gobos. Meanwhile they are fine tuning their CMYK gobo service and recently put this new technology to use to create a full-colour logo for the new West End production of Les Misérables, projected from a Vari-Lite VL3000Q during the show’s preset.
“The gobo seems set to be with us for a long time to come,” comments Diane Grant, “and as long as it is, DHA will be working to make the widest range of designs available at the best possible price and adding to the effects possible through devices such as our Gobo Rotator and Gobo Carousel. We will also continue to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with these versatile slices of metal or glass.”
