PMC Installed Throughout New Netherlands Broadcast Centre

The principal Dutch broadcast company, Holland Media Groep (HMG), has completed a massive relocation of all of its studio facilities to a single site in the Hilversum Media Park. Extensive upgrading of studio specifications, undertaken as part of the biggest project of its type seen in the Netherlands in recent years, includes the installation of eight new PMC monitor systems.

Two PMC IB-2S-A, Bryston PP300 SST power pack activated, monitor systems have been installed in each of the HMG based Yorin FM and RTL FM radio studios. Six PMC AML-1 systems, with Professional Tubular 104 stands, have also been specified for the centre’s new pre/post production facilities, complementing an existing PMC IB-1 surround system already in use by Yorin Television.

HMG technical project manager, Niels Mos, explains the decision to equip with PMC: “ The relocation coincided with setting up facilities for RTL FM, our new, national, non-stop music station. We were already happy with the PMCs in the old Yorin TV broadcasting centre and so included PMC in the procurement procedure for the Media Park. Once again PMC came out on top, with the project team agreeing that PMC represented the highest possible standard - a standard that we intend to maintain.”

The complement of radio studios has now been increased, from the previous four room suite to a newly built 10 room complex, consisting of two (plus one back-up) broadcast studios, three production studios and four pre-production studios, predominantly equipped with PMC monitoring.

Mos explains that the production team is best served with continuity in speaker specification: “The studios definitely benefit from having PMCs throughout, as everyone then works with a good understanding of what the sound is supposed to be like. The clarity of the monitors also means that the engineers and editors can work fast, knowing that they will hear any problems instantly. In a pressured, commercial radio environment, that’s exactly what we need.”
